Kenworth T270 and T370 Medium Duty Vehicles Now Available with Roof Fairings

With diesel once again inching above the $4 a gallon mark, fleets are on the lookout for ways to consume less.

"In the heavy duty segment, roof fairings are a common sight, but not so much for medium duty fleets," said Doug Powell, Kenworth medium duty marketing manager.  "However, we expect to see a transformation in that area. There has been a surge in requests for roof fairings for our medium duty conventionals, and we're pleased to now offer the aerodynamic fairings for tractors, as well as trucks that run box vans."

The announcement was made in conjunction with The Work Truck Show, which runs March 6-8 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. Kenworth has a record eight trucks, including a Kenworth T270 van body, T370 4x4 and T370 dump box at the annual show, which is sponsored by the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA).

Available in a two-piece for factory installation, or as a one-piece fairing with installation at Kenworth dealerships, the roof fairings are matched to give a precision fit and finish to Kenworth's T270 and T370.

"The fairings are similar to what we've run on our Class 8 trucks, so they're proven in durability and functionality," said Powell.  "And, with their low cost, the benefits and paybacks in ROI, thanks to improved fuel economy, can be relatively short."

The Kenworth T270 and T370 are available with the PACCAR PX-7 and PACCAR PX-9 engines. The 6.7-liter PACCAR PX-7 delivers superior performance, minimizes operational costs and maximizes uptime for medium duty customers. The engine offers ratings of 200- to 325-hp and up to 750 lb-ft of torque for the T270 and T370.

The 8.9-liter PACCAR PX-9 delivers one of the highest power-to-weight ratios in its class with heavy duty features such as replaceable wet liners, roller cam followers, bypass oil filtration and targeted piston-cooling. The engine offers ratings of 260- to 350-hp and up to 1,000 lb-ft of torque for the T270 and T370.
