How do you know when your truck’s exhaust

truck is quieter, emissions are lower and the system's back pressure is stable.

Too many muffler baffles can shut down the exhaust flow. Too much flow, however,
can lead to excessive noise. And if the back pressure rises too high, the
fuel-and-air mixture may become trapped in the combustion chamber, causing the
engine to stall.

Noisy exhaust system? Consider the
following:
- Inexpensive flex tubing is usually the first
area to fail, and the first place to check for noise leaks.
- Make sure the hangers supporting the exhaust
system are not too loose … or too tight.
- Installing a dual muffler ("Y"
connector) system can reduce noise by more than 50%.
Around the muffler: Inspect the area around the
clamps for cracks and rust-through where noise, soot and even exhaust gases can
escape.
Elbows, stacks and exhaust pipes: Dented or
crushed tubing restricts exhaust flow and increases back pressure. Even small
dents can reduce fuel economy and increase turbocharger wear, as well as raise
exhaust temperatures.
