Design Engineer/Sr. Design Engineer-1 opening

With minimum supervision, develop complex production designs of sleeper interior components that require engineering skill and knowledge of truck regulations, operating, service, and performance environments to meet schedule quality, performance, cost, weight, and reliability requirements. Develop new designs to meet new product cost, reliability and functionality. Work with plants and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure new designs meet design for Manufacturability/Assembly criteria. Work cross-functionally with other groups to meet functional, safety and durability requirements for new and modified designs. Project management/scope is routine or well-defined. May review and check work of junior personnel. Lead supplier activities.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Past experience in product design and development
  • 2-3 years experience
  • Experience using DFSS and the PCP process
  • Demonstrated strong technical knowledge
  • Demonstrated use of Pro/E (modeling, drawing, sheet metal and some advanced modules)
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, PCP, DFSS, Kenworth truck systems, quality systems
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical/problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated team player
  • Solid understanding of plant processes complimented by completing plant rotation
  • Commitment to organization/department goals and customer expectations
  • Previous lead experience as a design lead
  • Previous experience leading supplier activity
  • Technical knowledge of plastics
      

  • EDUCATION REQUIRED:

    BSME or equivalent engineering degree required.
